The harmless Black Swamp Snake(Seminatrix pygea) is a shiny black smallish snake with a bright red or orange belly, and they are quite common in Georgia, especially the southern part of the state. Ringneck Snakes(Diadophis punctatus) are also shiny black or dark gray on top, with bright orange or yellow bellies, but they usually have a noticeable orange or yellow ring around the neck, right behind the head. They, too, are completely harmiess.
