What fruits can cats eat?

Most fruits are okay for cats to eat, as long as they don't eat the pips! However, unlike humans, cats do not need to eat fruit or vegetables in order to stay healthy!

Instead, cats need a large amount of protein in their diets - hence why the staple diet of a cat should always be meat.

Cats are primarily carnivorous, as they are in the wild, although they may eat grass if they feel ill.

Your domestic cat may have a fondness for some fruits or vegetables, although giving these to cats on a regular basis is not advised, as they cannot digest them as well as humans can!

Here is a list of foods that will be poisonous to your cat:

  • Alcohol.
  • Apple seeds.
  • Apricot pips.
  • Cherry pips.
  • Candy.
  • Chocolate.
  • Coffee.
  • Grapes.
  • Hops.
  • Macadamia nuts.
  • Moldy foods.
  • Mushrooms.
  • Mustard seeds.
  • Onions.
  • Peach pips.
  • Potato leaves and stems.
  • Rasins.
  • Rhubarb leaves.
  • Salt.
  • Tea.
  • Tomato leaves and stems.
  • Walnuts.
  • Yeast dough.
Although milk is generally thought to be good for your cat - it isn't! Cats are lactose-intolerant, and therefore find it difficult to process milk. It may cause your cat to have a bout of diarrhea.
