Like any other dog it would depend on the age of the dog her fertility at the time of breeding and the males fertility.  Pitbulls can have anything between 3 and 9 but average is 4/5.

All Shih tzus are different and carry in different ways, mine were never sick, never seeked attention nor nested until the last 2 days of their pregnancy.  The only sure way to know is visit the vet if you are not experienced.

Its bile, probably caused by a hair stuck in the throat after grooming him/herself.  Another cause could be your shih tzu is not getting enough fluids, as a dry throat can cause the same kind of tickle.
