What makes anyone gain weight? Carbs. I read that dogs do not gain weight on protein, but carbs. I had to cook for my female after she had pups. I cooked chicken, rice and fresh veggies. I fed her more often too. Instead of once or twice, I feed her three times a day. If they are hungry, they will eat. I gave her more treats too. Never hurts to try. (needless to say I had to cut down on the treats eventually) I gave her yogurt ,milk bones and fatty meats for awhile.
