Frozen peas provide the fiber that replaces the fibre they get from their diet in the wild. It helps them maintain enough ruffage that they do not succumb to bloat or constipation. If constipation happens it puts a great deal of pressure on the swim bladder and if they lose that they can certainly die. Make sure the peas are warmed and are not cold. One per fish should help them stay regular.
