Average length of heat cycle in Jack Russell can be of 21 days. Dogs can have 2 heat cycles in a years. Following are stages of heat cycle in dogs.
  1. Vaginal swelling followed by bleeding that can last for 7-10 days (First stage)
  2. Reduction of bleeding, flagging and mating (second stage)
  3. In case of pregnancy Gestation of 63-66 days
  4. In case of no pregnancy, heat cycle after 6 months

Heat cycle of Jack Russell is not different from other dogs. It also has 4 stages like other dogs. These stages are
  1. Proestrus
  2. Estrus
  3. Diestrus
  4. Anestrus
First stage can last for 7-10 days, second stage for 8-10 days, third stage for 56-68 days if pregnant and 60-100 days if not pregnant. Fourth stage can last for 4-5 months. Usually heat cycle in dogs can be of average 21 days or three weeks during which breeding is possible.
