The ideal weight for an adult French Bulldog is anything between 22lbs and 30lbs. Males tend to be several pounds heavier than females, though!
Some breeders produce smaller-framed French Bulldogs than others, which is why the weight range is so wide.
You should take your French Bulldog to the vet and ask for advice if you’re concerned that they’re underweight or overweight – it’s better to be safe than sorry!
About the French Bulldog The French Bulldog is a small domestic dog that, despite its name, actually originates from England. The breed is related to the English Bulldog and American Bulldog, all of which are descended from the Mastiff dog. In turn, this breed can be traced back to the dogs owned by an ancient Greek tribe called the Molossians.
Until 1835, Bulldogs were bred for blood-sports such as bull-baiting; indeed, this is where they get their name from. The outlawing of such sports in England left the Bulldogs without a specific purpose, and they have since been bred purely as pets. The average lifespan for a French Bulldog is 8 to 10 years.
