When a tick is seen on the coat of a dog, it is normally associated with swelling too. It can be pulled out with human hands but proper washing and disinfection should be done afterwards else one may get a tick borne disease. Hence it is advisable to wear a pair of gloves while trying to remove a tick.
Also the use of tweezers could be effective. Whatever device you use, do make sure that you catch hold of the tick as close to the head as possible and pull it out with constant force.
However, spotting and removing a tick everyday could be an arduous job. It is much better to use some commercially available products such as product like ProTicCallTM or DefendTM which when sprayed can kill the ticks and also remains effective for 2-3 weeks; another option would be to use specially designed tick collars which repels the insects. This will ensure that the dog is tick free for that period of time.
