Puppies are Ok to leave mommy's after 6- 8 weeks; but 10 weeks are even better. The pup is better weaned from mom, and has developed more social skills; and is ready to be separated from mom and litter mates.
The best time of year would be when you would be able to take time off work, and be home with the pup for several days, so it's not left alone, in a strange new environment. This would allow for bonding time for you and your new baby!
