Ir is a wester diamond back rattle snake
That was probably a 'diamond back' snake (common name) or 'Crotalus atrox' (scientific name). Be careful, they are venomous.
If the diamonds are diamonds, rattle snake. Leave it alone. If the diamonds are really hexagonal shapes, a rat snake. Which also hisses and pretends to rattle, agressive, will move away if it can, but not poisonous. Check out pictures of both, look at the nose and the tail. Preferable from a distance in case it is a rattlesnake.
