The predicate of a sentence is something that tells us information about the subject, therefore the predicate sentence here is "my dog Steven" as we know that the dog's name is Steven.

• "was just leaving"

Is not going to work as a predicate of a sentence because we don't know where the person is going, it is doesn't make correct sense and therefore you can instantly see that this is not going to be a predicate of a sentence.

• "the judges"

This is clearly not going to be a predicate of a sentence as we know nothing about the judges or what they may be doing. This is a very good example of a sentence which could successfully to carried on and therefore have much more information included to make it something better.

• "too many people these days"

This is not going to work as a predicate for a sentence as we don't know what the people are doing! This could easily be changed and you can clearly see how it could become a predicate of a sentence.

As long as you know how to find the predicate of a sentence you can be sure that you are not going to struggle when it comes to picking an example out within a list of sentences and sections of sentences. If you are not sure what the certain sentences look like or how to find them, you can simply do a search online which is going to provide you with all of the information that you are going to need to ensure that you are not going to struggle when you are trying to find examples in the future.

This example has been clear and easy and all you need to remember is that the predicate of a sentence gives us information on the subject that we would not know without the extra few words.
