A syrian hamster pregnancy will last 16 days, with a dwarf hamster pregnancy lasts 18-21 days. At this time, the hamsters usually do not like to be handled, and might bite. If yours does not bite, then it's comfortable with being handled.
A few days before birth, complete the cage thoroughly as you won't be able to clean it for another 2-3 weeks. Make sure there is lots of bedding, remove the father, and keep the cage in a quiet room with nothing to stress the mother.
It is advisable to not be in the room, or near the cage, when the hamster is birthing. This is very stressful on the mother, and if she gets too stressed she will kill the babies. Just make sure you provide fruit and drink for the mother, and don't go near the cage for two weeks unless it is for this purpose. It won't take long for the delivery to actually happen, a few hours.
