Since dogs and cats are light athletes, running around all day, they are prone to get creaky joints as they get older. If the dog is otherwise healthy, the problem is probably arthritis. This is common in older dogs.

Another condition your dog could have is hip dysplasia, a hereditary problem that means "badly mad hips". When the hipbones don't fit together as they should, the dog can get sore and stiff.

Finally, cancer and diabetes can also give the dog trouble in standing and walking. If the problem came on gradually, it is probably joint problems, but if it happened suddenly, then you should take the dog to the local vet.
