All meds have side effects and there are usually factors that make them more or less likely (or dangerous) which is why we need someone that knows and understands all the factors involved (including our dogs health and individual factors) to prescribe them and monitor our pups and check them out if something seems wrong while they are on meds so things can be safely changed or adjusted. There have been a few cases of hearing loss or partial hearing loss with the drug but primarily with other factors involved such as it has happened with mostly geriatric dogs and is usually temporary. You can find out more about it by clicking the link.

My 18week old puppy has lost hearing in both ears after 5 days on this medicine. I'm very sad and feel very guilty over this. We stopped meds as soon as we realized he could not hear. It's my hope that it will come back.  I feel this is not a safe medicine! Had I know, I would have never used it.

I began using remicin ointment for my 14 year old chow chow on Wed. On Friday morning I could tell that she could not hear me. My husband and I tested her every way we knew to see if she would respond and she did not. I called the vet immediately and asked if remicin could cause her to go deaf. She said no, that it was probably fluid in her ears. My gut said otherwise and to stop using it so I did. I'm hoping her hearing returns. Please reply if you know or have experience with this drug.

I just started my dog on Remicin and the directions I have say to use twice a week, but only after I rinse his ear with oticetic  flush.  I really hope there are no side effects such as hearing loss.

Perhaps you guys let it clog their ears.

My pittie/basset hound mix has been on Remicin off and on throughout her life and has suffered no ill effects due to it. In fact, the opposite has been true and she has appeared to be happiest and healthiest during and after her treatment with this medicine.

That being said, every dog is different (just like every person is different) and all react to medication in different ways.
