Where Do Brown Recluse Spiders Live?

I live in south carolina. When I got up in the middle of the night to go to bathroom and turned the light on, a brown recluse went running very fast across floor very fast. It went into my 5yr old son's room and I didn't know at first that it was a brown recluse until I caught it.  My house is very clean so when I found out that they like clutter and dark corners, I wondered where this spider could be living! My only guess was maybe under the bed somewhere.  When I pulled up my son's bed, there were several holes in the box spring that could easily be a home for any spider to live.  I immediately threw it out and replaced it to be on the safe side.  When you find one in your home for the first time, you really start thinking outside the box to find a source to get rid of them.

Typically, brown recluse live in the south central part of the United States--not sure if they live in other parts of the world.  However, they can be found as far north as Minnesota (uncommon) and maybe further north.  So, i.e., their native range is essentially the Mississippi River area--if your state borders the Mississippi or borders a state that borders the Mississippi, they are likely in your area to some extent, ranging from common to rare.   

They live all along southern america from sea 2 shining sea. South-mid to be precise... But mostly south, people say no not in california for brown recluse.. I beg 2 differ . My paps was bitin by one on his arm, these bites typically arent to bad unless the bite is on fatty tisue. So arm isn't to bad. The bite at 1st is red then gets into a blister and eventually bursts. Google some images and ull find many gruesome pictures however many arent to bad. Most if they do develop, which many get red and disappear, will be a blister the size of a quarter and spew puss .. A lot.  I never incountered a recluse bite on fatty tisues cause my dads was on his forearm where  a good amount of muscle is. Hope this helped, try and avoid them but don't be petrified of them.
