So far the current score for my 2 rose hair's (sold in store as mexican rose hair) are currently approximately 17 yrs for the female and 9 yrs for the male. Both were about 2 yrs old when we got them. Both have never been bred, and molt more and more infrequently as the years go by. Most books we've looked at over the years show it as being 15-22 years for females.

Also one more note: Though you say you handle your tarantula frequently so I'm sure you know how, it is inadvisable unless you are well trained. Handling can case them stress and thus shorten their life span and lead to health problems, also there is a much higher risk of dropping them!!! These creatures don't need the same affection as other animals and are a very solitary creature. Keep their home comfortable, water dish clean, and they will love you still, honest.

Mating takes about 30 seconds and often, the female will consume the much smaller male. Females lay about 700 eggs in a cocoon which she will aggressively guard. The eggs hatch after about 4 months and must vacate the nest quickly or the mother will eat them. Males live 7-8 years while females can live up to 25 years.

If you have a female, which I think you might, she could live as long as 15-20 yrs. The male has a very different look to him. Go to www.wikipedia.org and enter Chilean rose tarantula. Hope this helps, good luck.
