My Cockatiel Is Always Biting & Scratching Herself. She Has Very Heavy Powder Dust & Very Flakey Skin Otherwise She Is A Very Playful Happy Contented Little Girl. She Is Approximately 2yrs Old. What Could It Be?

Hello, my cat had that same problem and I found out it was fleas get a flea collar for dogs

She may be starting to molt or be stressed out from the loss of her mate. If this keeps up I would take her to the vet and have them see it they can determine the problem.

My Cockatiel is DEFFINATELY NOT stressed or moulting, she has had this problem ever since we got her. I thank you for your answers but will take samples to our avian vet. Keep you posted.

Your bird could have mites. There is a very bad mite around this year that is making birds bite and scratch themselves, sometimes until they are bald or even bleeding. (rarely) Vet can test and treat if vet is avian vet. Don't use OTC mite sprays because you could kill your bird if it breathes the spray, its like poison bug spray. Then again it could be something else, but I hope I have helped a little.

I have the same problem with my cockatiel. Hes 6 years old and is scratching himself and biting himself a lot. White powder dust is falling of him and hes scratching some of his feathers of if.
