I love how you all berate this person for their horrible treatment of the animal when you don't even know what you are talking about. My mouse is doing the same thing and there are other mice in the cage. Before you are ready to criticize maybe you ought to get an education.

Talk to your vet. He may have some health issue. Also see if you can find some online groups of people that have these as pets and see what their advice is.

Barring any good advice, try putting something like Mentholatum on his tail to see if that stops him from wanting to chew on it.

This is common for sugar gliders to do when they are lonely! You need to get another sugar glider to give your single one company or it will most likely DIE.

Your animal is either going through depression or loneliness. You can give it more attention or get another pet to satisfy their unhappy needs.

Over grooming is generally associated with depression or a lack of a certain vitamin. Take it to the vet FIRST to rule out any illness before getting a second one. Do not be offended by the comment made earlier. The point is to keep asking questions. Keep learning. And keep trying to improve your pet's quality of life.

Maybe it is unhappy or lonely. Take more care of their mentation, and treat it as your family member. On the other side, you can give it some sock to eat.

Your glider is self-mutilating because of loneliness or unhappiness! He/She will mutilate itself to death! This is very serious! I hope you have taken him to the vet already!!!!! You need to give him/her away if you can't provide it a friend and the attention it needs and deserves! Do not put anything on his tail take him to the vet NOW!

I just realized this was asked two years ago. People like you shouldn't own pets. Did you even do any research on suggies before you bought him? I bet not. You are sick. How would you like it if you were isolated from all other humans and left in a small cage? You would go crazy too and try to kill yourself, that is exactly what your sugar glider is doing. They are extremely social and live in colonies in the wild. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BUY JUST ONE SUGAR GLIDER!!!
