This is not meant to insult your intelligence, but the first, and most obvious course of action, is to check your windows. If you live in an area near a large expanse of land, or near a body of water such as a lake, chances are there are a lot of flies in your area. Leaving windows or doors open will allow flies to enter your home. The flies will then remain there until they find a way out. If you're not leaving windows or doors open, check to see if there are any holes in your walls, gaps around your windows or under doors, or other such areas which flies could use in order to enter your house, even when doors and windows are shut.
If keeping doors and windows closed does not seem to solve your problem, it could be that you have an infestation of cluster flies. These are usually found close to areas where there are dead animal carcasses. If you have a problem such as rats or mice, the flies will be drawn to the dead bodies of the animals and will infest your house to look for them.
If you are noticing these flies around springtime, it could be that your house was home to fly eggs over the winter. With the weather becoming warmer day after day, the eggs will start to hatch into flies, which could then lay more eggs and continue to terrorize your house.
There are a number of remedies which can be used to rid houses of infestations of flies. Investing in a good bug spray should help to clear flies from your house. Ensure that all doors and windows are closed and spray the bug spray into rooms where the flies seem to congregate. This should be done at a time when you can leave the house for at least a few hours, as it is not ideal to inhale a large amount of bug spray. When you return to the house, you will notice that the flies have died and are on floors, windowsills and other surfaces. It is safe to clean up the dead flies using a vacuum.
