What is causing black spots around my dog's genitals?

Black spots on your dog's genital area could be caused by a number of conditions. The best advice I can give you is to take your dog to a vet immediately.

The vet will be able to perform a detailed and thorough evaluation of the problem, and should be able to make an accurate disgnosis. If this is the case, then treatment for the condition should be able to begin straight away.

  • Allergy: Your dog could be having an allergic reaction to something, which is causing irritation in that area. Allergies can normally be easily treated by a vet.
  • Infection: Your dog may have a bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection. These types of infections can cause irritation and will cause your pet a great deal of discomfort. Luckily, a vet can also treat these problems quite easily.
As stated, the best advice I can give you is to take your dog to the vet as soon as possible.

Are they moving? If so, you have a flea infestation. If they are not moving, they could be freckles.

The only way to be absolutely sure is to ask her vet next time you go, as long as they are not oozing, itching, causing pain, or have a terrible smell.

If any of these conditions are present, you should get her to the vet quickly.
