The exact number of years a dog essentially ages in each human year would depend on the species of dog. some species of dogs have a life expectancy of around 9 years whereas others on average live to be 14. to work out the number of dog years for each human year you would need to find the life expectancy for your species of dog, and divide the human life expectancy by it. In Britain this is about 80 and a bulldogs life expectancy is about 7, so that would mean about 11.5 dog years per human year...... but because dogs and humans are very different physically and socially the actual development times are not comparable, for example a dog can walk almost from birth and would be considered fully grown when it is 1or2.

The old wives tale that there are seven dog years to every one human year has been proven to be wrong. Dogs are able to reproduce at the age of just one year. Now, if this was equal to one human year, then that would mean that a child of seven would be able to have children themselves! Veterinarians have now come up with a system to correctly work out how old your dog would be: In human time, at 10 human years, your dog will be five months old. At 13 human years, your dog would be the equivilent of eight months. At 15 human years, your dog's equivilent age would be one year old. Three dogs years would equalte to a human being 28 years old. By the time you dog is nine human years, it will be around 52 years old in doggy years and when you pup reaches 12 human years - usually the lifespan of most dogs - it woul dbe equivilent to 64 years in age.
