You could always just use a net, if you want something easier to get a bird. :)

First you need a old chest, and a 20 inch long piece of string. Then tie the string to the chest's hood. Next put in something birds like to eat. Then hold the string and the chests hood will open. If you let go of the string the hood will close shut on the Bird.
