Dogs can live in most places on earth. As long as they have their natural requirements, they are an animal that can thrive and live in packs for sometimes over a decade. Wolves live in incredibly cold places, too. You may think that dogs may just live in faraway places in Eastern Europe or Asia, but the truth is that there are natural-born dogs in the United States. Generally you will not find dogs that live wildly in urban areas, however, in some run down areas across the world you may find packs of dogs that have started living without their owners and living along side other dogs in a pack.
Obviously, most of the dogs in the world live in homes. Dogs are one of the first animals that humans tamed, and are commonly known as ‘man’s best friend’. This is said precisely because they are generally loyal to humans, who are able to take care of them and feed them. Dogs are incredibly loyal as long as you are loyal to your dog.
Dogs also live in dog pounds and rescue centres. Whilst dogs remain loyal to humans, it’s a sad fact that many humans do not remain quite as loyal to their dogs. Even though some dogs may be large, they simply cannot defend themselves against abusive owners. Hence, these dog pounds and rescue centres are there to help dogs that have been abused, help problem dogs, and to potentially even rehome them to people that are going to look after them better.
Remember too that all dogs come from one common ancestor, the wolf. Due to selection, humans have created hundreds of different varieties of dog, and today we still continue this. By mating dogs that only have certain characteristics over generations, whole new kinds of dogs can be bred. Crufts is the largest dog show in the world and it shows off the incredibly diversity of dogs today.
