She can lay up to 500 hundred eggs in her very short lifetime. She is ready to begin laying eggs soon after she has emerged as a butterfly from her chrysalis. The eggs are a pale green color at first, and are about the size of the head of a pin. Just before the caterpillar hatches out of an egg, the egg grows darker. This site has information and photos about painted lady eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies: Painted Lady Butterflies. Here are some more photographs of Painted Lady eggs, caterpillars, and butterflies:mamba.bio.uci.edu
