Wild ducks eat mainly vegetation and insects. A pet duck can be fed a diet of grains that can be mixed for you at a large feed store.

The staple food of the duck is 'pelleted mash' they can eat this on daily basis, apart from this however you can feed your duck with vegetable trimmings which they really enjoy. You can also include other stuff like: - night crawlers, meal worms, algae, snails, plants, coy food feeder goldfish and some expensive landscaping. The ducks that are found in the wild eat a variety of plants and insects their native food differ from region to region and breed to breed.

While feeding a duck keep in mind that you cannot feed them with chocolate or chocolate products, this is a strict no-no. Also keep in mind to avoid nuts and seeds. Breads and crackers are also dangerous for ducks; however you can still feed these to them once in a while.
