Adaptation is a relatively slow process. Sometimes animals, when moved from one area of the earth to another, by artificial means, can adjust to the new environment. But adaptation is something that has to happen slowly, as the environment changes. If there is a fast change those animals that survive, will have already had some characteristics that allow them to survive. But if they have characteristics only useful to their original environment, then they will die out. Often as their environment warms they will gradually seek cooler environments. If the warmer environment is part of their natural cycle or movement, then they will already have strategies for staying cool. There are many strategies, such as hunting at night to avoid the heat of the day, or shedding fur during warmer times. Some animals used swimming as a way to cool off.
