The black widow spiders mostly eat the arthropods (mostly insects with jointed legs) and their favorite food still remains the red imported fire ants. These fire ants are found a lot in the cotton fields in Texas and therefore, black widows grow live there as well, close to their favorite food. Some of the other creatures that they have had as food include beetles, grasshoppers, Boll Weevils and even scorpions. They feed on all the insects that get caught in their webs like cockroaches. The spider punctures holes in the body of the insects and then sucks out all the liquids.
