The reason you can't find a reference or picture is because it does not exist. If someone told you it did, they were teasing you. My family refers to the Rhodesian Ridgeback as a the Norwegian Ridgeback because we are HPotter fans and like bad jokes.

There are ridged-back dog breeds, but they are the Rhodesian Ridgeback and the Thai Ridgeback. Neither is a good choice for a novice dog owner.

Looking online the only reference I can find to a Norwegian Ridgeback is in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone book in Chapter 14, and it is not a reference to a dog, but a dragon.

There is a book that you can buy that goes with the Harry Potter series. It is called: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And yes, it is a dragon. It is supposedly a dark brown with big, black spikes going down it's back. Why do I know this? Because my friends, my family and myself are HUGE Harry Potter fans. I am even in a Quiddich club and on a team set up by my school. And the team's mascot is the Norwegian Quiddich.
