The Australian Tree Fern refers to 3 types of ferns found in Australian and surrounding areas.   These are in a different family (Cyatheaceae, Dicksoniaceae) than most ferns common in the United States--these are the Liliaceae Family.
Any plant has the potential to cause gastrointestinal upset when ingested by dogs.
The best resource I know of is the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center--they have an enormous database.  If you live in Australia I would contact a local veterinarian who is more familiar with local plants and their effects on dogs.
