To be honest, I don't think so. A dog has to learn one way or another. My mom beat our dog with a drumstick. But, what he did was get past the doggy gate and he tore up EVERYTHING. Yeah I am telling the truth. We have to discipline dogs just like how our parents discipline us. Now, what abuse is when you just beat a dog brutally for no reason.

I'm going to disagree with arthur and cydnee... Sorry. Giving the dog a smack and a telling off is fine when theyve done something wrong but scolding is going over the line. You would never scold your child to teach them a lesson so you wouldnt do that to an animal either. Also picking the dog up was more than unnessesary so yes I would consider this as abusive behaviour. Not the smack and the telling off but the scolding and grabbing I would. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Maybe but its sure a whole lot better than having your dog get hit by a car or something so the dog better learn that this supposedly abuse is far better than the altenatives out here

Picking up a dog by the scruff of the neck is what a mother dog does to her puppies when they misbehave. It doesn't hurt them, but lets the naughty puppy know it's been in trouble.Your dad doing the same thing is just reinforcing this behaviour. The scolding could be labelled as abusive, since the dog needs to learn what it's being scolded for. That scenario just ends up frightening the dog imo.
