Grasshoppers live in meadows and fields. Grasshoppers are basically small herbivorous insects in the suborder of Caelifera and order of Orthoptera. To differentiate them from other bush creatures like crickets or katydids, they are known as short-horned grasshoppers.

The caelifera have antennae which are smaller than their body and have short ovipositors. Species which make noises that are simply heard by humans are produced when the insects rub their hind femurs alongside their forewings or abodomen or while snapping their wings in the air.

A grasshopper can jump around twenty times the length of its own size. If humans could jump that high they would almost jump as high as forty yards. Grasshoppers are found in all parts of the world. Grasshoppers have a total of fifteen eyes.
