Actually if you go to wikipedia and look up humans it will say that orcas(killer whales) are also one of the nine species who have passed the mirror test! Also the orca has the second largest brain in the world and of the cetacean family after the sperm whale. So I would say the orca is smarter or at least equal to the dolphin.

It is true orcas (which, BTW, are the largest member of the dolphin family) are smart & can pass the mirror test, however, size of brain & smarts don't go hand in hand. What is significant to brain size with respect to intelligence is the size of the brain in PROPORTION to the size of the body AND what percentage is geared to reasoning. Elephants actually have larger brains than humans & every member of the dolphin family, including Orca. Yet he is not smarter than any of these ...esp humans.

An Orca (aka Killer whale) is a dolphin. It is the largest of the dolphin species. So the answer is neither.

I would say dolphin because they are one of a very few animals who recognize themselves in a mirror where as a killer whale does not.

A list of animals that can pass a mirror test is available in nearly any encyclopedia, that's where this information comes from. SInce the asker of this question is likely not a marine biologist, and likely common folk, they probably are referring to a porpoise as a dolphin and an orca as a killer whale. Although both are in the dolphin family only the porpoise has ever been proven to pass the mirror test.

This sight is messed up. Everytime I go to edit a comment something gets deleted or changed in a way I didn't change it ! ! ! ! ! ! Aaaaahhhh!!!! Okay, let's try again. ............................. I'm convinced those who do that mirror test are honest, unbiased or competent - not sure which. They don't allow that some animals (that aren't included in their list) can be TAUGHT to recognize themselves in the mirror. I can prove this because I have taught 1 of my cats & 1 of my dogs. (con...) Another thing scientist either haven't thought of (or WON'T) is many animals listed as passing that test are more sight oriented than smell. It may be most dogs & cats aren't smart enough, but it may also B they know it's not the real thing & therefore aren't interested. An animal who trusts its nose more than its eyes is going to dismiss what they see when there is no smell to back it up. Further, if there's no sound to back it up ...well, that just reinforces the same.
