The winner is the elephant! Elephants are said to have a brilliant brain that can scene fairly sophisticated things like music, allomothering, self-awareness, grief. These give a strongly established base for the fact that they also have a very sound and sophisticated memory system. Ocra whales on the other hands are lesser intelligent owing to the fact that they are almost 20 times heavier in mass with their brains almost only twice the size of the brain of an elephant.

Both are intelligent animals with good memories, but female matriarch elephants have been known to remember the location of watering holes, or feeding grounds from calf until death, so I would imagine an elephant would have a better memory than an orca. No sources, but from an evolutionary view point it would also make sense for an elephant to have a better memory than an orca.

I'll go with the whale. Have seen lots of whales sometimes with the killer whale coming out of the water very close and I was in a small boat. OK, will bite; went back and reread your question and saw your direction to cite our source. Seems just about the entire internet is made up of the juvenile section of our society wanting to pit the poor Orca against every creature both living and dead from the T-rex to the jack rabbit in prolonged battles of one sort or another. Did learn a lot about the change in the evolutionary process where the cetaceans returned to the ocean after evolving to the land. Could find no one wanting to step up to the plate and compare the killer whale to the elephant in either intelligence or memory where they committed themselves to an opinion one way or another. Ok, so now tell us already!
