I would assume that insect repellents would likely work for wasps as well.  However, if not, it is easier for you to avoid them than to keep them away.

That being said, it sounds like your fear borders on a full blown phobia.  My personal recommendation is to face your fear, so that being in the presence of a wasp will no longer scare you so much.  I know, this is not an easy thing to do.  I used to have a terrible phobia of spiders.  I cured it by getting a big hairy tarantula and keeping it as a pet.  Just being around it lessened my fear over time, then I could confront it more and more... By allowing it on my hand, letting it crawl on me.. And so on.  I also performed a sort of dominance exercise.. Killing other spiders whenever I found them... Usually by swatting them with bare hand.  Eventually you come to realize that you are the one THEY should be afraid of.  I have no fear of spiders anymore.

Generally speaking, if you stay away from the nest, wasp will leave you alone. HOWEVER if you slap at a worker foraging , you may get stung. If you accidently disturb the nest you may get stung. I think your fear FAR out weights any real threat these insects pose to you. They are actually a real benefit to world at large. Like skunks and snakes, wasp suffer from very bad press.

I have an enormous fear of wasps and at the moment there is a lot around but you shouldnt be scared to approch them as long as you always have a fly swatter and meby even some wasp spray! They are attracted to perfume and sweet smells so if you don't want to get chased don't wear any perfume/aftershave! Also 1 time a wasp went up my trouser leg and stung me a bunch of times so where tight fitted trousers 2 ! And if none of this stuff helps you should meby go and see a therapist... Hope this was helpful :)

I just wanted to make sure you don't listen to the guy that said it will die if it stings you. Only honey bees will die if the sting you, because they have barbed stingers which are very hard to pull out once they've punctured a mammal's skin. Wasps, and certain bees (like bumble bees) have no barbs and can therefore sting multiple times with no problem. Generally they will not continue to sting you, and will move on. As far as keeping them away... I wish I knew. Make sure you destroy nests around your house and keep yourself nice and clean as they are attracted to sweat to some degree.

you can go to Walgreens and buy a wasp ,or call the company who sends somebody to get rid of all insects in and around your home.

Your fears far outweigh the actual problem. Although if you are allergic to them then you are justified in this fear. I have been stung many times and the though it does hurt some it is nothing to cry about. The heat and itch are worse than the pain. And the wasp dies when it does sting someone.
