As opposed to the general Canid terminology, Male Foxes are   called Reynard. They are also called dogs or tods, though theses are not quite so common names. The female fox is a vixen, and her young ones are called kits, pups or cubs. A group or a pack of foxes is called a skulk.
Foxes are omnivorous and solitary animals and the females are highly territorial. However, during the mating season (autumn) the female fox changes her scent marking which the male fox then picks up. They have a short courtship and they build their den together (which is invariably another animal's burrow). The male Fox stays with his family until spring and makes sure that they are provided for before leaving. The pups grow up and though they remain as part of the pack, they are still relatively solitary and do not spend much time socializing.

The male fox is a dog; the female fox is a vixen. A nickname for a male fox is also called a "tod". :)

Reynard was the name of a cunning fox in mediaeval folk tales later written down by writers such as the brothers Grimm.  Tod was the name of a fox in a Disney animated series.  Neither is the generic name for a male fox.  You might just as well say that the name for a female dog is a lassie.  A male fox is called a dog or a dog fox.
thanked the writer.

Further to my earlier answer, I find that "tod" is an Old English word for fox which survives in the surname "Todhunter" but is otherwise out of use.
