There are 8 kinds of badgers, in three subfamilies: Melinae (the Eurasian badgers), Mellivorinae, (the Ratel or honey badger), and Taxideinae (the American badger).
The European badgers eat mostly anything from nuts to insects, fruit and birds and lizards. While the American Badger, eat only small mammals, like stoats, voles and marmots; they are also knwn for eating woodpeckers.

Some of the other badgers include Hog Badger (Arctonyx collaris), Burmese Ferret Badger (Melogale personata), Oriental Ferret Badger (Melogale orientalis), Chinese Ferret Badger (Melogale moschata), Everett's Ferret Badger (Melogale everetti), Eurasian Badger (Meles meles). The subfamily of Mellivorinae include the Ratel or Honey Badger(Mellivora capensis). The subfamily of Taxideinae include American Badger (Taxidea taxus). The other in the badger family consist of Indonesian or Javan Stink Badger and Palawan Stink Badger.
