It is unlikely that a dog would be able to kill a lion in a one-on-one situation.
However, there is one fearless dog breed that is often used for hunting lions:
Dogs that hunt lions The South African Rhodesian Ridgeback is well-known for being used by lion hunters to keep lions at bay.
Whilst they might not be able to take on a lion and kill it, Ridgebacks have been known to kill baboons and are often used to hunt the notoriously aggressive wild pigs.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is muscular in build, and very loyal and intelligent, and these traits are key to their use as hunting dogs.
Although it takes a fearless dog to square up to a lion, Rhodesian Ridgebacks tend to be loving and tender with their owners.
If you're think about getting one as a pet though, I'd recommend you do a little research into the breed first.
Young Ridgeback pups can be a lot of hard work and have a habit of being slightly mischievous.
