It can be used to keep viruses in check in cats. For example, it is estimated that up to 95% of household cats in the UK have the Herpes virus, and many also have the Chlamydia virus. The use of L-Lysine can help the cats body to keep the virus in check. It is one of the 12 essential amino acids (found in protein - especially in raw food diets) that needs to be supplied through the cats diet (as opposed to the other 12 amino acids, which the cats body can produce itself).

The cat has an URI, not herpes virus. I called the vet back, and it's an immune system booster-and no, he doesn't have herpes virus. Thanks anyway.
