My toy poodle started having seizures at the age of 5 he is now 10. To be clear, by seizures I mean that he starts by sitting with a very hunched back followed by trying to walk but his back legs do not work and his front ones are completely stiff, he walks with a drunken gait. His pupils are enormous and he appears to be blind. It always seems like it lasts for ages but in truth it is only minutes, it happens about 5 times a year. He is a little tired afterwards.
My vet said she could give medication but it would slow him up a bit and as they are not so frequent as to affect his quality of life it probably was not worth it,
So for the past five years I have always remained calm when he has a seizure, gently talking to him about the great deal of pleasure he gives me and and what a good dog he is. I keep an extra attentive eye on him next 24 hours and then we go on enjoying life.
