My toy poodle started having seizures at the age of 5 he is now 10. To be clear, by seizures I mean that he starts by sitting with a very hunched back followed by trying to walk but his back legs do not work and his front ones are completely stiff, he walks with a drunken gait. His pupils are enormous and he appears to be blind. It always seems like it lasts for ages but in truth it is only minutes, it happens about 5 times a year. He is a little tired afterwards.
My vet said she could give medication but it would slow him up a bit and as they are not so frequent as to affect his quality of life it probably was not worth it,
So for the past five years I have always remained calm when he has a seizure, gently talking to him about the great deal of pleasure he gives me and and what a good dog he is. I keep an extra attentive eye on him next 24 hours and then we go on enjoying life.

My toy poodle is 3 years old and has already had about 6 seizures within the past year.  We recently put him on medication because he had two back to back seizures on his last episode.  Hopefully this new seizure medication will not damage any of his other organs, he will follow up with the vet for blood work after a month of use.  Is there anything I can do at home to avoid possible episodes? Such as food, or any at home remedies because I hate to have him on meds.

I have a 5 year old toy poodle who recently started having seizures! It only occurs one every few months right now, the vet told me until she starts having them more frequently (Once a month) that med is not needed! My dogs vet told me the best thing to do when she is having a seizure is to hold and comfort her. Hope this helps!

Thank you for replying, my dog is 8 years old, his seizures started a few months after my son passed away its not an eplictic seizure I think it mostly anxiety because he thinks I am leaving him, he was use to being with the both of us for 8 years.  It so happens that when I took chance to the vet, he had one right there.  He said it was unusual, usually dogs don't get seizures at 8 years of age.  Your vet was right thought because every time he gets one, which has not been for a month now, I hold him in my arms and just pet him so that he knows I am not leaving, and within 1/2 an hour he is okay.  In any case that you for your answer it is appreciated.

I don't know what is going on with my teacup poodle who is 5 years old.  She was fine Sunday night when we went to bed and I woke to a startle while she was having her first seizure.  She then developed bloody diarrhea, we took her to our vet Monday morning first thing and as of tonight, Tuesday night, she is still there.  Her sugar is fine, but her temp is only 92 and should be 101.  My vet's office has actually had over a dozen cases since Saturday with these same symptoms.  With ours being so small, it has been very difficult to get her to swing back out of this.  I'm praying and hoping everything will be okay with her.  She is my baby. I miss her terribly.  They have her sedated and an IV to keep her hydrated and the seizures to a minimum. Our vet called some of the other local vets here in Newark Ohio today and informed me that they are having the same issues at their offices, but not the seizure portion, he said probably because the other dogs are larger than our 4 lb dog.  I hope someone can find some answers.  Please add Daisy to your prayers.  Thank you everyone.

My toy poodle is 8 and has had 3 seizures in the past 4 months. Her first one was at 4:30 am, second one was at 3:45 am, and the last one that happened tuesday morning was at 6:30. The first two times she was beside me under the covers and this last time she was at the end of my bed on top of the covers. She is very confused and shakes after the seizures and the next day, she is always hyper. My cousin works with a vet and he said that she should be fine, but if they happen with 24-48 hours of each other then they would put her on medicine.
