Flagging is a behavior in female dogs which occur during heat cycle of a dog. Flagging behavior is characterized by lifting of tail up and allowing male dogs to sniff butt area. This means that she is ready for mating. Flagging or acceptance for male occurs during second stage of canine heat cycle. Ovulation also takes place in this stage. Flagging behavior is usually shown when vaginal blood is stopped. It is a time when mating can result in to pregnancy that can last for average 63 days.

When a female is in stand heat she will curl her tail to the side.
