Sounds like he may have anxiety issues. If he doesn't have a place that's his to go to, try making him one....with a doggie bed or one of your old blankets and a familiar toy.

Is your dog getting enough exercise? An under-exercised dog can lead to on that will start doing things to burn off the extra energy.
