No, they are not, though they belong to the same smarty-pants bird family, Corvidae (crows, ravens, jays et al). Ravens are generally larger, with a more robust and more curved beak. You can tell them apart in flight by looking at the tail. Common ravens have a diamond shaped tail, and crows have a fan shaped tail. Corvids really are pretty darned smart. The part of their brain dealing with spacial relations is greatly enlarged, and they are capable of logical thought processing.
