Since the first chicken probably evolved from an earlier form of similar bird through some sort of mutation, I guess it could be argued that the egg came first.

Genetic mutations can only take place before birth, so technically the egg must have come first.

On the other hand, that first chicken wouldn't have technically been a chicken. It was simply a mutant of the species preceding the chicken.

In order for it to then become a species of its own, it would have needed to develop into a sizeable population.

I do not even see the Quora answer, just, seemingly, a profile.

@Rishi Krishna

That makes about as much sense as Marylin Von Savant did in her Parade article on this subject. This shows that even very intelligent people can make simple errors in evolutionary thinking.

Well..the answer is simple enough..order a chicken and an egg and see witch one shows up first. ;D

No opinion, just the evolutionary evidence.

Your question is ill posed as populations evolve and individuals are selected. And all individuals die.

Populations are transitional and made up of many variant organisms. No first chickens or eggs. Just as there is no Adam or Eve for humans.

I disagree. I believe that humans did come from Adam and Eve.

Your beliefs are not pertinent to the point of human origins. The actual " Adam " and " Eve " are genetic markers on the road of human evolution and the biblical Adam and Eve have not a scintilla of evidence to support them.

So, which did you mean? And where is your evidence if you meant the latter?

Scientifically speaking, the egg came first but biblically speaking, the chicken came first... either way, I think it's all about evolution! Just saying.
