Chimpanzees are the smartest animals in the world. Chimpanzees are very similar to humans in the way they think, and they can react/adapt to their environment much better than most animals can.

Most humans (excepting some British politicians) are a bit more intelligent than chimps. The problem is the definition of "smart".
