With the majority of animals The young look like the adult only smaller and they get bigger in the same form from birth to adult.  A beetle for example lays eggs, the hatch to be meal worms, and the make a cocoon and emerge as beetles, In each stage they must change from one form to another.  It is for that reason that metamorphosis is a unique form of development.   Quick answer the outward appearance keeps changing to adulthood.
