It is illegal to have certain animals (ie.rattlesnakes) as pets in Arizona... You can call your local fish and game office for a list of restricted wildlife... azgfd.gov
My guess is they only give special permits for keeping rattlesnakes in cases of research and education.. But it can't hurt to call and ask.

It wont be a question of if you will get bit but when. This is always how it is. Trust me I have friends in Florida that bread venomous snakes. Make sure that you have antivenin for the species you get and know how to use it before you go to the hospital or at the very least make sure the local hospital has the correct antivenin constantly in stock! Although rattlesnakes hurt like a b***h if treatment is sought early it can usually be stopped at only losing an appendage.
