What kind of dog is she? Is she going into her first heat or could she be? If that's it, once this is over you should have her spayed. You don't have to worry about it anymore, don't have to worry about accidental pregnancy (and it's risks), and she'll be healthier and live longer. Do NOT let her around intact males, take her for walks or anything in public, or even in the back yard alone until at least ten days or so after she stops bleeding (or the swelling goes away in case this one is 'silent'). Those boys will come from anywhere and everywhere. Just be sure that is the reason and it's not something else. Good Luck to you.

That 's about right age for a Cairn's first heat. Spaying is surgical removal of the reproductive organs (an ovariohysterectomy). It only averages about $150 to $300 or so usually and is well worth the cost considering what you would have to pay for problems later only to have it done then in an emergency manner (and more expensive) most of the time as a part of the treatment for whatever health issues are a direct result.

You'll have to muddle through this one (it's messy) and keep her away from all intact males and no walks or anything in public and don't even let her outside alone so you can get her in if some boy gets in the yard (they will do some amazing things to get at a girl in season). That will have to be the case until at least ten days after the bleeding has stopped, sometimes longer or the sweeling goes away. You can have her spayed a month or two after and not have to worry about it. :-)
