Hamsters are solitary and territorial creatures. They need to be separated at the age of 6 to 8 weeks old. As staying together can lead to fighting and killing.

I got my hamster, and it was pregnet, and my hamster had 4 babies! Everything was fine for 2 weeks, but now its 3 weeks and I woke up this morning, and I only saw 2 hamsters in the cage, everything is locked and safe, so they couldn't of escaped. I didnt see any blood in the cage so I don't know what happened, last week I saw some fighting going on between the two hamsters that are missing.  :(

I think it is a territorial issue they dont want to share the territory. Hamsters are like that. They are not social creatures so if you want more then one rodent in a cage i would stick with gerbils!! :)
