The Benefits of Wet Dog Food

Wet dog food, or often times referred to as canned dog food, is a great source of things you don't often get as much of in dry. ... The smell: Older dogs lose some sense of smell, and therefore might not eat their dry food with the same gusto or interest that they used to.

Each type of dog food has its own benefits, and choosing one over the other depends on your dog’s needs and your own convenience. For instance, dry dog foods are easier to store, and you can leave them all day for your dog to eat when you’re away without worrying of spoilage. Dry dog foods may also be better for your dog’s teeth as they can help scrape off plaque and tartar.

On the other hand, wet dog foods may be a better alternative if your dog has trouble chewing, or if your dog isn’t drinking enough water, as the higher moisture content of wet dog foods can keep your pet hydrated. It may also be easier to mix powder and liquid supplements in wet foods.

Regardless, there’s no rule that says you can’t give your dog both! You can give your dog dry food for when you’re away and give him wet food if you have some medicine that needs to be incorporated or give it to him as a reward for good behavior. The main thing is to incorporate each type slowly into his diet and monitor his reaction to each food.
