You probably could but window screen is pretty fine and it's a good possibility that they could chew their way out ! You could give it a try but most use the wire mesh because it's stronger. Rabbits like to chew ! You might call your local pet store and ask them what they think but I think you'll get the same type of answer.
Can I build a rabbit run with window screens instead of wire mesh? I would build a wooden frame and then put in the window screens. Can I do this?
Rabbits are notorious chewers and burrowing escape artists .. Regular window screen may not provide enough substance to keep them in the pen.
A rabbit will chew through window screen....also if they poo on this walkway, it's not going to fall through the screen so you'll have to clean that part out. You can get wire mesh from Home Depot, Lowe's, or your local feed store fairly cheap.
Isn't glass used in green houses? My partners conservatory is glass and it gets absolutely baking in there when the sun shines. Same as if you go into a pet store in the summer they turn the lights off because the rabbits are overheating just lying on the bedding. So if you want to overheat them in the summer then.....
Some chicken coops make good rabbit runs. Rabbits do dig aswell so I use to keep an eye on mine, they are good at keeping the grass down. I'd certainly advocate a run my friend use to let hers out in the garden it was walled, but she hadn't considered other risks like cats, one came in and killed 2 of her rabbits and had begun to eat them, it was absolutely gruesome still turns my stomach.
My grandpa made our hutch for our guinea pigs, and he used chicken wire. It's lasted almost five years, but it has rusted through at parts.
